Bergamo UCI 2029 World Championship
I remember during Covid—those glorious days of lockdowns, semi-lockdowns, and “lockdowns-but-not-quite”—when every week brought a brand-new decree. The suspense was unreal. We’d sit there waiting to find out what the weekend would look like: running allowed but only with a dog… or without a dog… but only on your street… or maybe just around your block. Then, in a twist worthy of a telenovela, sport suddenly became allowed—but strictly within your town’s borders.
Leave the house, but don’t leave the boundary. Keep your distance, but stay close. It all felt a bit medieval, like when ancient villages fought over a river, a lake, or some incredibly important right to the neighboring ditch.
This route is the result of those legendary days.
And—tell me—wouldn’t it be absolutely mad to host a World Championship here? Because it would turn into a spectacularly chaotic circuit: twitchy, technical, something between a cyclocross race and a mini Tour of Flanders. Narrow streets, sharp turns, sudden rhythm changes, steep climbs that bite your legs, fast descents that keep you honest—and all of it within 25 km, without ever straying far from the heart of the city.
A perfect training loop even in winter… and honestly, only a place like Bergamo could squeeze so much beauty, charm, and geographically-inspired suffering into such a small area.
Bergamo: the city where even your workouts make your rainbow jersey dreams come true!
