Gravel Bergamo: Serio river bike path

I came to gravel Bergamo bike riding a bit late, only when it really started to become popular a few years ago. I’ve always loved riding bikes with friends — it’s fun during the ride, and even better when it ends with food and drinks together. Over the years, though, everyone slowly switched to gravel bikes, and in winter I often found myself riding alone.

“Who’s riding tomorrow?”
“I am — gravel.”
“Gravel for me.”
“Same, gravel.”

That was always the answer. So I eventually gave in to the trend — after all, even my Instagram feed was relentlessly full of gravel bikes — and I bought one. Only to discover, on my own skin, that everyone was flying… and I was the slow one at the back: last to start gravel, last on the trail. Something had to be done.
So I designed this ride: a beautiful, approachable route, not too demanding, perfect for building speed, confidence, and familiarity with both the bike and the terrain.

This recommended route heads south along the Serio River, following green cycle paths and quiet riverside roads before crossing the flat countryside between the Serio and Brembo rivers. The ride develops across open farmland, canals, and peaceful rural landscapes, using mostly country roads and easy gravel sectors with smooth, non-technical surfaces. After reaching the Brembo River, the route follows shaded paths back toward Bergamo, eventually climbing to the historic Città Alta for a scenic highlight overlooking the plains. The overall difficulty is easy to intermediate, with no technical challenges or special riding skills required. It is an ideal itinerary even for riders who are just approaching gravel cycling and want to explore the territory at a relaxed but rewarding pace.
